Speaker:

Hello and welcome to Women in

the Coaching Arena podcast.

2

:

I'm so glad you are here.

3

:

I'm Jo Lott, a business mentor

and ICF accredited coach

4

:

Microphone (Samson Q2U Microphone):

and I help coaches to

5

:

build brilliant businesses.

6

:

I know that when you prepare to enter

the arena, there is fear, self doubt,

7

:

comparison, anxiety, uncertainty.

8

:

You can tend to armor up and

protect yourself from vulnerability.

9

:

In this podcast, I'll be sharing

honest, not hype, practical and

10

:

emotional tools to support you to make

the difference that you are here for.

11

:

Dare greatly.

12

:

You belong in this arena.

13

:

Hello, welcome to the women

in the coaching arena podcast.

14

:

I am so glad you are here.

15

:

I've just done my last business of

coaching group called before the summer,

16

:

because I work term time only . So

I'll have six weeks off to really

17

:

connect in, do big picture thinking.

18

:

I'm intending to do a lot of creation and

changes to my business over the summer.

19

:

And it's really lovely to get the

space to do that because it's that

20

:

sort of thing that you just can't

do in between calls and in between

21

:

replying to messages and all the things

that we all balance on a daily basis.

22

:

So on the call we wrote a

letter to our former self.

23

:

So we often write a letter to our

future self, but we very rarely write

24

:

a letter to our former self about all

that we have learned along the way.

25

:

I invited my clients to

write their own letter.

26

:

Think about all that they've

learned on this journey so far.

27

:

And it also invited them to

share their letter to me on this

28

:

podcast, if they would like to.

29

:

So I will see if anyone does it.

30

:

But my main way of mentoring

is to practice what I preach.

31

:

To really walk the walk.

32

:

So despite the fact, I ended the call

saying, I really don't want to read my

33

:

letter to my former self and publish it.

34

:

I thought I would step

up and do exactly that.

35

:

So here is my letter

to 23 year old Joanna.

36

:

Dear Joanna.

37

:

You have no idea that you will become

more than you ever thought possible.

38

:

You will go on a journey that pushes

every limit you currently have in place.

39

:

They are all of your own making

and you can truly push against

40

:

these imaginary boundaries.

41

:

You will speak up and be loved

by others for who you are.

42

:

For your realness and vulnerability.

43

:

You don't need to worry about going red.

44

:

Soon that won't be a

thing for you anymore.

45

:

You will be so deeply connected and

tuned into others that you will have

46

:

no time or concern to be self-conscious

47

:

.

You will realize that everyone needs support.

48

:

No one has it sussed.

49

:

They are just the same as you.

50

:

You will learn that we all carry trauma.

51

:

Whether that's through generations or

small incidents that we place meaning

52

:

on which aren't necessarily true.

53

:

You will learn that you have a unique

purpose and people need to hear

54

:

your voice and your way of sharing.

55

:

You will learn that those strengths that

you currently see in your strengths finder

56

:

assessment, or that your boss tells you

in your performance development review,

57

:

that you refuse to believe a true.

58

:

Are actually true.

59

:

You have an ability to connect with

people quickly and to feel their feelings.

60

:

This isn't always a good thing as

you feel too much for others and

61

:

you can't run around the track for

them, no matter how hard you try.

62

:

I want to assure you that

you will find your own path.

63

:

And that it's all a journey where

one step will lead to the next.

64

:

But you must keep being courageous

and keep taking those steps.

65

:

To draw a line in the sand

when you realize old stories

66

:

are no longer true for you.

67

:

When they are something that

you need to leave behind to

68

:

move to your next evolution.

69

:

That you are here for big things, and

you can not do those things while you

70

:

undervalue yourself and your ideas.

71

:

That your voice is worth listening to.

72

:

That you matter.

73

:

That you can make a difference to others.

74

:

No matter how sorted you think that

they are, because they need you to

75

:

raise your voice to make a difference.

76

:

That is my letter to myself.

77

:

As at 16th of July, 2024.

78

:

So as I look back, that was

written to when I was around 23.

79

:

And I had coaching for the first time

and I filled in a strengths finder,

80

:

and all these different assessments.

81

:

Cause it was a career coaching

thing I did at the time.

82

:

And coach came out as my top job.

83

:

And then I obviously thought,

well, that's ridiculous.

84

:

So I moved down to job number two,

which was teacher, which again, I

85

:

just didn't have the confidence for.

86

:

So I laid low working in an office

for far too long, even though my

87

:

entire aim in life was always.

88

:

Not to work in an office.

89

:

Now I've learned, never say

not, or I don't want to, because

90

:

you will attract those things.

91

:

So really focus on the

positive of what you do want.

92

:

Rather than what you don't want.

93

:

I think the main thing

that came out for me.

94

:

In that letter, which someone shined

a light on today in their letter is

95

:

that even though I understand that I

pushed past so many limiting beliefs.

96

:

That we all still have limiting beliefs

that need pushing again and again.

97

:

And imagine what your letter in 20 years

time will say to your current self.

98

:

So that's a really poignant

thing for me to remember.

99

:

That there are still things that I'm

carrying that no longer serve me.

100

:

And I think my final takeaway

from my letter was raise your

101

:

voice to make a difference.

102

:

So that is why I absolutely love

you listening to this podcast.

103

:

And it means so much to me.

104

:

To be able to share my ideas,

which is something for most of

105

:

my life I didn't feel able to do.

106

:

And I always put other people's thoughts

and ideas ahead of my own, and I would

107

:

never have been the first to speak up.

108

:

So that's been a good

growth journey for me.

109

:

Also to ensure that I continue, because

I have a big mission and I have a lot

110

:

that I need to leave behind in order

to really move to that next evolution

111

:

and really, really raised my voice to

make a difference in this industry.

112

:

So, thank you so much for listening.

113

:

If you want to share your letter

with me, I would love to hear it.

114

:

So you can email me at

joanna@joannalottcoaching.com.

115

:

And I can't wait to hear it.

116

:

Thank you so much for

listening to today's episode.

117

:

I hope it was helpful and you

gained insights from my own letter

118

:

to my former self, and I invite

you to write your own letter.

119

:

It was a really insightful exercise, to

make you feel grounded and to give you

120

:

that fire and inspiration to continue

on this entrepreneurship journey.

121

:

So thank you for listening.

122

:

And like I say, at the end of every

episode, trust yourself, believe

123

:

in yourself and be the wise Gardner

who keeps on watering the seed.
